The HFC men’s basketball team, under the leadership of first-year head coach Chris Shepard, have had a superb season.

The Hawks were nationally ranked for seven straight weeks in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Basketball rankings. In fact, they broke into the Top Ten, ranking 9th for the first time ever at HFC! They are the NJCAA Eastern Conference Champions.

Shepard is proud of his inaugural team at HFC. Previously, he was the assistant coach for the Macomb Community College men’s basketball team for three seasons.

“It’s been a positive experience,” said Shepard. “(HFC Athletic Director) Rochelle Taylor has been very supportive of the basketball program and our student athletes. We’ve gotten new jerseys this year and have been able to take some overnight trips. We’ve had success on the basketball court and in the classroom—six of our athletes were named to the Hawks Academic Team last semester. It’s a pleasure to be coaching at HFC.”
