Welcome to the spring edition of Henry Ford College’s CareerFocus magazine. Now that our mild winter is nearly over, I want to take a moment and say thank you to our students, community, faculty and staff for your ongoing commitment and support of this long-standing institution of higher education.

As we move into spring, now is a great time to remind everyone that HFC provides an exceptional, high-quality education and array of support services designed to ensure student success. Most importantly, students who complete their associate degree at HFC and then transfer to four-year institutions to complete their bachelor’s degree can potentially save thousands in the total cost of their college education. With our University Center partnerships with Eastern Michigan University, Siena Heights University and Madonna University, we help make the transfer process seamless and efficient, which means students can complete their degree in the comfort of their home community. Sometimes there is nothing better than a mother’s home-cooked meal while working toward a bachelor’s degree.

This year, we’ve also launched a new Bachelor of Science Degree in Culinary Studies; a new Recording Arts Certificate program; and Supply Chain Management (SCM) associate degree program. Based on industry trend data, jobs in these fields will continue to grow and HFC has a strong reputation of providing a comprehensive education that meets the growing needs of industry and business.

I also wish to mention an important new resource we unveiled in late December 2015: The Hawks’ Nest. This resource helps decrease food insecurity by offering non-perishable food items to needy students at no cost. Attending college can be daunting—but attending college while uncertain about where your next meal might come is a challenge no student should ever have to experience. We hope that by offering this new resource, we can help students stay in college and ensure that they receive the nourishment they need to succeed in their studies.
