{"id":40,"date":"2019-03-29T14:51:07","date_gmt":"2019-03-29T14:51:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hfcc.mycareerfocus.org\/spring-2019-volume-10-issue-1\/hawks-mens-and-womens-basketball-teams-earn-post-season-honors\/"},"modified":"2019-06-13T16:50:49","modified_gmt":"2019-06-13T16:50:49","slug":"hawks-basketball-team-players-earn-post-season-honors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hfcc.mycareerfocus.org\/spring-2019-volume-10-issue-1\/hawks-basketball-team-players-earn-post-season-honors\/","title":{"rendered":"Hawks basketball team, players earn post-season honors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">The HFC Hawks men\u2019s basketball team finished the 2018-19 season in championship form with an overall record of 23-9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">The season included multiple highlights, including: a second-consecutive MCCAA Eastern Conference Championship, the MCCAA State Championship, and advancing to the District 10 Championship game, where they concluded their season with a loss to St. Clair County Community College, 88-77.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">One member of the Hawk\u2019s women\u2019s team and several members of the Hawks men\u2019s team received post-season honors from the MCCAA.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Women\u2019s team:<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Mariah Mitchell:<\/span> All-Region, All-MCCAA, First Team All-Conference, All-Freshman Team, and Freshman of the Year.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Men\u2019s team:<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Leon Ayers: <\/span>All-Region, All-MCCAA, First Team All-Conference, and All-Freshman Team.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Luster Johnson:<\/span> Second Team All-Conference.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Andre Johnson:<\/span> Third Team All-Conference.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">LaMarkco Gulledge:<\/span> Honorable Mention All-Conference<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Andrew Crawford:<\/span> All-Defensive Team.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Andre Johnson and Ayers were also named to the National Junior College Athletic Association\u2019s (NJCAA) District 10 All-Tournament Team. Head men\u2019s basketball coach Chris Shepard was voted by his peers as Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">\u201cI\u2019m very proud of our basketball players,\u201d said Athletic Director Rochelle Taylor. \u201cThey put in a solid effort all season long, both on and off the court.
